What is the Dragon Boat Festival and why is it celebrated?

As we approach the vibrant season of the Dragon Boat Festival, we at CBOX CONTAINER HOUSE COMPANY would like to take a moment to wish everyone a joyous afternoon and share a little about this significant holiday.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional and important celebration in China. It has been held annually for more than 2,000 years and is marked by eating zongzi (sticky rice treats wrapped in bamboo leaves), drinking realgar wine, and racing dragon boats.
But, why is it celebrated? The festival is in honor of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan, who was a minister in the ancient State of Chu. Filled with despair when his state fell to the Qin dynasty, he drowned himself in the Miluo River. The local people, who admired him, raced out in their boats to save him. When they could not find his body, they dropped balls of sticky rice into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan’s body.
This touching story has been passed down for thousands of years, and today we commemorate Qu Yuan's sacrifice through the exciting, colorful festival that is the Dragon Boat Festival.

So, from the entire team at CBOX CONTAINER HOUSE COMPANY, we wish everyone a wonderful Dragon Boat Festival. May your afternoon be filled with joy, celebration, and perhaps even a dragon boat race or two. Happy Dragon Boat Festival!
